CATCH THE BUG! SHINING TECHNOLOGY’S NEW BEETLE™ SIMPLIFIES DV CONVERSION AT NAB 2007

Award-Winning CitiDISK™ Maker Provides Fast, Convenient and Compact Device to Maximize Analog Equipment – for Betacam™.

DMN Newswire--2007-4-18--For many who think they have no alternative but to jettison their professional quality analog video equipment in favor of today’s DV/HDV standards, think again.  Shining Technology (www.shining.com) today announced the Beetle™, a new family of products designed to bridge the analog and digital worlds by providing a small, fast and convenient solution for converting analog video to a variety of digital video formats (and vice versa).

For the hundreds of thousands of high-end analog video equipment users, (e.g., Betacam™, 8mm, VHS), Beetle can be a productive, efficient tool for allowing such users to work with their video content digitally while assisting them in preserving their analog investment.

The Beetle DV 1850 is the lead entry from Shining’s new product line.  Now in pre-beta, this small, “mount anywhere” device is designed to offer analog video conversion into professional quality digital video formats (DV, DVCPro50 and MPEG2), and is equally valuable for exporting edited digital video to an analog videotape recorder or display.

In addition to video signals, Beetle also converts the FireWire AV/C control protocols to/from RS232/422 and controls of other analog devices like cameras and VTRs.

Beetle can be self-powered via the included battery or can run on AC.  Its compact size and lightweight allow users to mount the Beetle virtually anywhere for ultimate convenience.

“Even though our industry is undergoing a massive shift to high definition technology, we can’t forget that there is still a significant market segment using analog equipment,” said Chris Wang, marketing manager at Shining Technology.  “By bridging the gap to help these users convert their content to digital formats, rather than losing it altogether, we’re making their HD transformation a bit easier.”

Shining also plans to release a sister Beetle, compatible with other digital video formats (flavors), such as HD.  Future announcements will include additional product information, features, specifications, pricing and availability.
