CitiDISK DV and CitiDISK DV C50 Release note: This release note is applicable to configured FW1256C and CitiDISK C50 hardware. WARNINGS: 1. DO NOT HOT-PLUG or HOT-UNPLUG the CitiDISK due to both camera and the CitiDISK embed internal battery; both units ground potential may not be the same, by HOT-PLUGing or HOT-UNPLUGing the CitiDISK, the surge current could damage the CitiDISK's and possiblly the camera FireWire ports. 2. Correct power ON sequences: Always connect FireWire cable between the camera and the CitiDISK when the CitiDISK's power is OFF. Powering on the camera first and then the CitiDISK. 3. Correct power OFF sequences: Always disconnect the CitiDISK with camera or with computer after the CitiDISK's power is OFF. Powering off the camera second and then disconnect the FireWire cable last. Release note: this text ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 16, 2009 -- Release for FW1256C-xx and FW1256C50-xxx models Files: 1. FW1256C50-oxfw911-06162009+rom+rom2-HDR7Release.bin: Binary file for FW1256C-xx and FW1256C50-xx models. The real firmware date is June 16, 2009. 2. FirmwareUploaderV197.zip: Zip file for CitiDISK Firmware Uploading purpose only. Note: Must use the firmware uploader v1.97 to upgrade the firmware, always un-install previous verison first. Note: Must use the PC/2K/XP/Vista system to update the firmware. New Features: 1. Add in the support for up to 500G hard drive. 2. Add in the "Slave Recording" feature for Panasonic P2 camera family when there is no P2 card inserted. Here are a example of setting on the camera: a). "Menu", "Other Functions", "1394 Control" ---> set to "EXT" or "BOTH". b). "Menu", "Other Functions", "1394 Cmd sel" --> set to "REC_P" c). "Menu", "Recording Setup"( in camera mode ), "TC" --> set to "DF"( drop frame mode ) or non-DF mode d). "Menu", "Recording Setup"( in camera mode ), "TCC" --> set to "FREE RUN" e). "Menu", "Recording Setup"( in camera mode ), "TC Preset" --> set to the start value you want to have. Due to there is no P2 card inserted, it is necessary to set as above allowing Timecode being written to the FireWire stream. A RED "SOLID CIRCLE" shows up in viewfinder when pressing "REC" button in the camera indicating the external FireWire device, the CitiDISK, recording is in progress and a RED "||" changes when pressing the "REC" button in the camera one more time( pause ). Each "REC" and "PAUSE" actiions create one clip file in "Media" folder. Manufacturer has tested the following Panasonic P2 camera models and confirm they are all compatible with the new "Slave Recording" feature. Following are the tested camera models: AG-HPX170 (173 PAL) AG-HPX300 (303 PAL) AG-HPX500 (500 PAL) AG-HPX200A, 200 (203 PAL) However, for non-P2 camera, tape media inserted is still recommended for double protection. Hence, such feature is only turned on when a non-blank tape is inserted. Note: "Record at the end of tape" is still being observed. 3. Separate CitiDISK HDV firmware from this CitiDISK DV FW1256C firmware. Now, the CitiDISK HDV is combined with CitiDISK HD family. Bug Fixes in addition to March 1, 2009 Release 1. Not being able to Qplay or PlayAll the clips continuesly. -- Fixed. 2. Speckle noise while QPlay or PlayAll the clips. Such speckles only show in Play to viewfinder due to un-sync'ed outputted signal which is not exhibited in editing or playing back in computers. -- In-sync and removed in the release. 3. Prohibit further recording when total "Media" folder clip files exceed 999. Known issues: 1. "Media" folder holds up to 999 files. 2. To achieve above P2 camera "Slave Recording" feature, the CitiDISK must be turned on while P2 camera in "Camera" mode. Which means if user turns on the CitiDiSK while the P2 camera is in "Review" mode but switch it back to "Camera" mode after the CitiDISK has finished the initialization, such "Slave Recording" mode will not be enabled. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- March 1, 2009 -- Release for FW1256HD-xx models only Files: 1. Before updating the firmware, user MUST update the "Confgmgr.bin" first before commencing the real firmware update. a). Connect the CitiDISK to PC/XP system first, then, power on the CitiDISK second. Wait till the GREEN / Power light be stabilized. b). Mouse over the "Safe Remove Hardware" icon on the bottom right corner of the screeen. Select "Shining Technology... and click "OK" to stop the hardware. The unit will start to blink GREEN & RED alternatively, wait about 15 seconds untill the GREEN is stablized. At the same time, do NOT unplug, do NOT power off the unit. c). Start the v1.96 firmware uploader, user should find the firmware date is March 4, 2008 and configuration is set as "R5" or with earlier date & releases. d). Click on the "Modify device setting", and select "Import file" option, write down the "ChipID"( 2-digit and the 6-digit value ), select the "Confgrom.bin" or "HD-Confgrom.bin" included in the "FW1256HD(HVX200)-oxfw911-10082008+rom+rom2R6Release.ZIP", re-enter the "ChipID" value you have just jogged down, click on "Upload" to complete the process. e). When "Ready" message shows up in the status bar, exit the uploader, the drive icon re-appears in the "MyComputer" folder. f). Now the "Confgrom.bin" is updated, re-do the steps b) & c) again. g). Click on the "Update / upgrade device firmware" this time, choose the "FW1256H-oxfw911-12262008+rom+rom2R6Release.bin" for CitiDISK HDV or "FW1256C50-oxfw911-12262008+rom+rom2Release.bin" for CitiDISK DV, DV50 also included in the ZIP file. Let the update process finished by itself. This process may take up to 2 minutes, do NOT exit the uploader or power down the unit until "Ready" message shows up again in the status bar, then, exit the uploader. The drive icon re-appears in the "MyComputer" folder. Note: After the firmware is updated, manufacturer suggest that user re-format the CitiDISK by invoking the "Shining Utility Suite" by selecting the 'DV Disk" to ensure the hard disk is clean and not fragmented. Know issues: 1. HDV clip play back is not enabled. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- October 10, 2008 -- Release 2 for FW1256H-xx models only, not applicable for FW1256C50. Vista support is not included in the v1.96 uploader. Bug Fixes: 1. Pre-scene looping function may cause the previous video image shows up in the beginning of current recording clip even such function is not turned on. -- Fixed. 2. Last recording clip could render as 0-byte file if user starts one long recording straight from the beginning till the end capacity of the unit from a fresh re-formatted unit. Such problem rarely shows up in normal case; when it happens, the RED recording light stay on but the hard disk access light is turned off, has to use the "safety switch" to force the unit be powered off. Problem is identified and fixed, the last clip render correct file size. 3. The CitiDISK may turn off the recording when the hard disk is fragmentted( or outter 30% tracks used ) & the effective disk transferring rate reduced. -- Problem identified and fixed. New Features: 1. Add in DVCPro50 recording capability. For example, Panasonic SDC615(DV & DV50) and HD900(DV&DV50). 2. Add in the support for 160G hard drive. 3. The "QPlay"( orange ) light stays "blinking" while "PlayAll" mode is on. Once entering the "PlayAll" mode, toggling the "QPlay" key will abort current playing clip and jump to next( if RED button is not on ) or to previous( if RED button is toggled on ) run; otherwise, it plays till the end of current clip and move to next or to previous one. When "RED" button is toggled on, both "orange" and "red' lights blink at the same time indicating "PlayAll" will jump backward clips. "Jumping" in forwards or in backwards are not the same as "REWIND" or clips be played backward( like man walk backward ). "PlayAll" plays always in forward direction but jumping backward or forward. Note: Jumping backward is in the unit of RUN( or called clip ) not sub-clip( break down clips due to file system limitation ). For example, if there are 0th to 10th clips they are numbered as "Clip0000.xx, Clip0001.xx, Clip0100.xx, Clip0101.xx, Clip0102.xx, Clip0103.xx, Clip0200.xx, Clip0300.xx, Clip0400.xx and Clip0500.xx". When "PlayAll" is activeated, it first plays "Clip0500.xx" and jump to "Clip0000.xx", "Clip0001.xx", "Clip0101.xx" and so on if "RED" button is not turned on. If "RED" button is turned on, it it first plays "Clip0500.xx" twice and jump to "Clip0400.xx", "Clip0301.xx", "Clip0200.xx", and "Clip0100.xx", "Clip0101.xx", "Clip0102.xx", "Clip0103.xx" and "Clip0000.xx", "Clip0001.xx". -- Bug Fixed: 1. After "QPlay" last scence and switch camera from VCR mode to camera mode and start to record, it may not record in the file format pre-selected. Problem fixed. 2. CitiDISK DV captured AVI2 clip hangs at the end of clip if Adobe Premier 1.5x & Matrox RT100 Xtreme( or Pro ) card is installed and Maxtrox RT100 plug-in is activated. Problem fixed. 3. If camera is not the only device in the FireWire chain aside from CitiDISK DV, it may not record. Problem fixed. 4. It would end up file system corruption should total entries inside the "Media" folder exceeds above limitation. Suggestion: A). Use "Quick Erase" function to clean up the "Media" folder structure after you had done transferred the video clips to the editing disk. Note: All the files( including run, clip or any data file ) inside "Media" folder will be deleted if "Quick Erase" function is activated. Please read through such section of the "user manual" or "quick usage guide" before performing such task. B).
